LaSalle Council is asking its administration to dig a bit deeper for savings.
They've wrapped up 2 days of deliberations on the 2017 budget and are looking for additional savings.
Of the initial 4.3% increase in the draft budget, 3.83% was the result of assessment increases from the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation.
Mayor Ken Antaya says Council passed a resolution for a bit more trimming to take out the remaining 0.46% hike from last year.
Antaya says the amount administration needs to trim is about $130,000.
It means people who are experiencing increases in assessment are going to see increases in taxes and those staying the same their taxes won't change.
Antaya says the increase from assessment is being put aside for the future: "of that 3.83%, 2%t is going directly to reserves for infrastructure needs that's a substantial commitment by our municipality, that's $600,000 on top of the over $6.5-million we're committing to infrastructure for the future as well"
Council has approved the 2017 Capital Budget of $17.3-million dollars.
The money will be used for construction of a splash pad and accessible playground, a fire substation and work to replace existing infrastructure, which Antaya says is largely replacing a lot of equipment that's reached the end of its useful life.
Administration is being asked to come back with a report Tuesday, December 13 to provide options on the Operations budget.
