This year's Labour Day Parade is set to roll down Walker Rd. from Unifor Local 444 Headquarters at 10am Monday.
Parade Chair Michael Malott says Border City Wrestling is a new addition to this year's day of "family fun" that includes a car show, bouncy castles, food, drink, and speeches from local MP's and labour leaders.
"This year we're very proud to announce that Border City Wrestling will be joining us to do a 90 minute show with some various wrestlers," he says. "Apparently they've scripted a little something special for us, so we're very excited to have them joining us there for the first time."
Malott told AM800 News, the theme of this year's parade is Canada wide "universal drug plan" for all Canadians, not just union members.
"Nobody should be forced to choose between paying for groceries, and paying for medication," he says. "The National Pharma-care Program is a priority for not only the labour movement, but it's also the theme of this year's Labour Day."
Malott says anyone who wants to join the parade is welcome to meet at Unifor Local 444's headquarters at 1855 Turner Rd. near Tecumseh Rd E. before 10am.
"We encourage any and all people who want to participate in the Labour Day Parade to show up there before 10am for a little march south down Walker Rd. to the Fogolar Furlan where we finish off and we have some speakers, some hot dogs, some pop, all paid for by our local unions," says Malott.
Festivities continue at Fogolar Furlan at 1800 North Service Rd. until 4pm.
