The Oakwood Community Centre is on the move.
It is packing up shop from its current location attached to the former Oakwood Public School (on Cabana Rd.) and moving to the expanded South Windsor Recreation Complex. Centre Supervisor Nikki Leblanc hopes to have the holiday day camps available next week (Dec. 27) and full programming beginning January 9, 2017.
LeBlanc says it's moving week.
"Currently we are in between the two facilities, packing up Oakwood and then packing all of our stuff to the South Windsor Recreation Complex and get ready for programming next week," says LeBlanc. "We are able to expand programming, the facility is a little bit larger and more access to more classrooms so we will be able to add more programs during peak times during the morning and evenings when it is really busy."

LeBlanc says the expansion was badly needed.
"We are the busiest programming facility so we offer about 165 programs every week at Oakwood ,and like I said, 'We will be expanding into the new facility and as we grow into the facility we will be able to offer more and more to suit our clients needs in this area.'"
The Oakwood Community Centre is considered the busiest programming facility in the city servicing 15,000 people weekly. The move of the Oakwood Community Centre into the South Windsor Recreation Complex is part of a $5-million project that includes a new gym and community rooms. The centre had to move when the public school board sold the building.
