Windsorites have come together to help make the holidays a bit brighter for the Windsor Hiatus House.
Over $7,500 has been raised by members of Unifor Local 444 for the women's shelter.
Hiatus House is currently at maximum capacity with all 42 beds in the facility being full.
The money will be used to help with programs run by the shelter as well as to purchase needed supplies for mothers such as diapers and hygienic products.
Chairperson of the Women's Committee for Unifor Local 444 Susan McKinnon says the Hiatus House does a lot to help the victims of domestic abuse.
She says nobody deserves to be the victim of domestic abuse.
"It is very important they receive this funding," says McKinnon. "They have been at full house capacity for a while now and the funds are really, really in need. We have to make sure that women are safe in their environment."
She says the Hiatus House is always open for those who need help.
"They are not alone, they have a lot of support," says McKinnon. "We just need them to reach out to us, and we will help them, any need, whatever they need to step forward."
She says the root of domestic abuse starts at a young age.
"It does start with young boys growing up and it is so important to educate them not to hit people, not to use sexism, not to cat call, because that is the root of it," says McKinnon. "We need to teach our children to respect everyone as it is not just women being abused. Men do get abused as well."
