Windsor's mayor is singing the praises of 2016 for the city.
Speaking on AM 800's the Morning Drive, Mayor Drew Dilkens says "2016 was a great year for the city with the unemployment rate dropping and ending the year with a successful event like FINA."
The jobless rate in Windsor was 9.3% back in January. It now sits at 5.7 %.
Despite all the positives, Dilkens says there are still areas in the city that need help.
"Even though we have a lot of success in the community and we see people doing better with more people working and the employment situation is better, I'm still cognizant of the lineup at the Goodfellows looking for a food basket and that they have more demand than they have money and the same applies to the Downtown Mission," says Dilkens.
He says first up in 2017, Windsor City Council will be tackling the city budget.
"There is a lot of work that goes into that and the preparation of that and that we come up with the right number or the best number that we can so there will be a lot of work over the holiday season."
The 2017 budget is calling for a 2.7% increase in property taxes but Mayor Dilkens wants it down to 2%.
Mayor Dilkens says as for 2017, Windsor is celebrating its 125th birthday and preparations are underway for a big celebration.
