Essex County will be saying good-bye today to a former warden.
69-year-old Rob Schmidt passed away December 27th at Windsor Regional Hospital's Ouellette Campus.
He had been battling cancer.
His funeral services takes place today at 2pm at the North Leamington United Mennonite Church.
Essex County Warden Tom Bain, who knew Schmidt for over 25 years, will speak at the service. "I knew him in his roll as a politician and especially as warden for the County of Essex, Rob gave it 105 percent as far as I'm concerned."
Bain says "Schmidt will be missed. He was an excellent person, as far as always had a smile on and greeted people with that smile and was very cordial to people."
Schmidt was the warden in 1996, the mayor of the former Mersea Township in the late 1990's and then became deputy mayor in Leamington for a few years.
