With just 11 days to go, the Fina World Swimming Championships is on budget.
Executive Director of the organizing committee Peter Knowles says so far, so good money-wise.
The budget for the event is $11.26-million with the city contributing $3-million.
He says the lower Canadian dollar did hit the budget but savings were found elsewhere.
"Nearly all the suppliers are Canadian companies," he says. "The only thing we did have to pay in U.S dollars is air flights and that is in American dollars so that hit the budget hard for about $400,000 to $500,000 which meant we had to find it somewhere else which we did so we are comfortable."
The estimated economic benefits is pegged at $20-million.
Organizing committee officials recognized the 200 local contractors, suppliers and sponsors today by placing a penny and loonie under the liner of the pool today for good luck.
14,000 room night accommodations have been secured for the event including hotels in Leamington and in Detroit.
Caesars Windsor Director of Resort and Hotel Sales Scott Fischburg says the hotel will be packed.
"We will be hosting 500 rooms for the convention for 10 nights between the convention and swimming championships and it has been in the planning stages for a couple of years and it is very exciting," says Fischburg.
$4-million in local contracts have been awarded.
