With FINA's opening ceremonies kicking off on Monday, members of the organization have started sharing their feelings about Windsor.
Senior members of FINA held an opening press conference Saturday night, saying the theme of these upcoming games will be very Canadian.
President of Aquatics Canada Lisa Schott says she is excited about FINA coming to Canada.
She says if the world did not know where Windsor was before, they do now.
"It is amazing to have the top international federation in the city of Windsor," says Schott. "One of the visions — I was on the bid team for this — was to bring the world to Windsor and I think we have achieved that goal."
She says Windsor is like her second home.
"Windsor has a special place in my heart," says Schott. "I think the people are great. I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with the city and I think we have formed a great partnership."
She says athletes are starting to feel more at home as well.
"They like the small town hospitality feel," says Schott. "It is more intimate."
The opening ceremonies for the games begin Monday at 6:30pm at The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor.
