The town of Essex walked away from the Communities in Bloom conference with some new hardware.
Civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification are just a few of the things the non-profit stands for and it's recognizing Essex with its top prize - the Outstanding Achievement Award.
The organization points to local pride, tree planting, garden clubs, and an array of other community events and activities throughout Essex as motivation for the win.
Director of Community Services Doug Sweet says town staff might be receiving the award, but the residents of Essex earned it for them.
"It's kind of their grand prize in terms of outstanding achievement. It shows what are staff, but more importantly, what our residents do because it's them that allow us to win an award such as this," he says.
The town was also a finalist in the Environmental Action category for its ongoing ecological improvements at Colchester Marina.
Canadian Gardening Guru and Home Hardware Ambassador Mark Cullen, will visit Essex as part of the award.
