A gym in Essex is hoping to expand.
'Fitness Fury' has approached the town with a proposal to build a fully accessible, 4,000 square foot facility next to the Essex Centre Sports Complex.
Gym owner, Jennifer Cassidy, says they've outgrown their current home at the former Kinsmen House in Essex and would like to use town land for a new building.
Cassidy says it would be a perfect fit next to the Sports Complex.
"It's going to be in all the surrounding area with the arena already existing and the soccer fields that they have built and I hear that there's a tennis court in the making as well there and I think it just all fits well with that which we need. We need an athletic facility."
She says they've already been leasing from the town for four years.
"We already lease from them. Their site that wasn't in any use and we've outgrown it. Our cross-fit and boot camps have outgrown it. Our equipment has outgrown it. So we want to put a bigger facility to help aid with all of our growth."
Cassidy adds it would be great for the residents of Essex.
"Really, it is mostly the Essex community that comes to our gym. So we looked for land all over Essex. There was really nothing around here. So in order for us to stay in Essex we kind of creatively came up with this with the town to kind of keep it in the community."
The proposal would see Fitness Fury enter into a 25 year lease with the town.
Essex Council has agreed to the terms of the agreement in principle with details around sewer and water hook ups still to be worked out.
Cassidy says if all goes to plan they'll have a grand opening for the new facility in August.
