An Essex town councillor is looking for public feedback when it comes to policing in the municipality.
Kim Verbeek has introduced a notice of motion, calling on the town to hold a public meeting or send out a survey to see how residents feel about the policing in Essex.
While she hasn't heard much from residents, Verbeek says there has been some chatter on social media.
"I think it's only right that we reach out to the public and let them have their say either in the form of a survey or an open house," she says. "OAPSB {Ontario Association of Police Service Boards} strongly recommends that police service boards and municipalities reach out to their constituents and gather input on their policing."
Verbeek says she wants to engage the community.
"We're just encouraged to get feedback from our residents about our policing and then take it from there and see if there's other steps to take," she says.
The town had its own force but switched to the OPP a number of years ago.
Verbeek hopes to speak on her motion at the October 21 council meeting.
