Windsor Police Services have taken more than $98,000 worth of drugs off the streets.
The Drugs and Gun Unit executed a search warrant at a home on Reedmere Rd. near Riverside Dr. E. around 6:30pm Thursday.
Investigators were on the trail of the suspected dealer several months prior according to Sergeant Steve Betteridge.
"On Thursday Sept. 14, members of the DIGS unit applied for and were granted a judicial warrant to search a residence in the 200-block of Reedmere Rd. here in Windsor," he says.
A 46-year-old Windsor-man was arrested without incident in the 1300-block of Wyandotte St. E. just before 6pm in relation to the warrant.
A quantity of what's believed to be cocaine, bundles of Canadian cash, and a switch-blade were found in his possession.
Police say baggies, cutting agents, digital-scales, and cell-phones were also found in the home.
Betteridge told AM800 News 963g of suspected-cocaine, 163g of suspected-marijuana,12 hydromorphone-pills, and six morphine-pills, were found in the home — he says at an estimated street value of $98,209.
"Very concerning because quite a large amount of drugs and firearms," he says. "A great job by our officers getting this off the streets and moving forward with this investigation."
He says two-loaded-handguns and ammunition were an alarming find.
"Illicit drugs that we're keeping away from hands where it could obviously cause danger and even kill," says Betteridge. "Tied into this also are two loaded-hand-guns. This is an example of that age old theory, where there's illicit drugs, there's violence and guns."
Forty-six-year-old Kirk McNorton of Windsor is facing two counts of possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking suspected cocaine, and three counts possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, marijuana, hydromorphone, and morphine.
