The program will only be available until January 5, 2020

If you're not a fan of saying goodbye outside the airport in Detroit, you now have another option.

As part of a pilot project, visitors and those sending someone off on a flight at Metro Airport, will be able to enter the terminals with a pass.

Authorities say the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) amended rules in 2018, giving airports the chance to allow visitors into the gate area without an airline ticket.

The DTW Destination Pass program is available for visitors at both terminals from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and will be limited to 75 visitor passes per day.

The program was already in place for guests at the Westin Hotel and will now allow people to enjoy the restaurants or spend additional time with loved ones before a trip.

Those wanting to join the program must apply for the pass on the airport's website the day before their visit and they will undergo the same security regulations as someone who is flying.

The pilot program is expected to end on January 5, 2020.
