It's been sunny, hot, and dry throughout Windsor-Essex — maybe a little too dry.
That's according to Environment Canada's David Phillips.
The senior climatologist says the region is actually in a record setting dry spell.
"Since the long weekend in May there's been less than 50% of the amount of rain that normally falls in Windsor-Essex," he added.
He says a dry July is the most interesting part of the drought.
"That's just never happened before, particularly in July in the thunderstorm capital of Canada. I mean you have good amounts of rain that occur and days with rain, but to go three weeks," he says.
With some showers Friday and more on the way, he says Mother Nature might be playing catch up.
"It may ruin some weekends with Saturday and Sunday also having a chance of rain, but when I look at the next seven days there's a possibility there's going to be rain on five of them."
There's a risk of a thunderstorm or two on Saturday and showers will likely continue all the way through until Monday morning, according to Phillips.
