A large menorah has been lit at Devonshire Mall to celebrate the eight days of Hanukkah and has been dedicated to the Windsor Police Service.
The celebration featured traditional Jewish songs, food and a large menorah decorated in blue to honour police officers.
Recently, Windsor Police teamed up with the Chabad Jewish Centre of Windsor to help raise money for Camp Brombal.
Camp Brombal provides an opportunity for children between the ages of 10 and 12-years old who live in low income families to attend a summer camp.
Windsor Police Chief Al Frederick was at Devonshire Mall for the celebration.
He says he and the rest of the police service are honoured to have been recognized by the local Jewish community.
"That brings a lot of pride to us as an organization," says Frederick. "To hear that we are being honoured by the Jewish community and to participate in this holiday today is really nice. "
He says he is thankful to be a part of holiday traditions across the city.
"The symbol of lighting candles such as the ones lit on the menorah are symbolic across all cultures and religions," says Frederick. "Light symbolizes joy and happiness and forgiveness and I think that is a wonderful message at any time of year. Today is special for us."
Thursday marked the fifth day of Hanukkah.
The menorah is located in front of the Devonshire's Dollarama.
