A little over $6-million in road rehab projects are going forward in Essex County.
The money was approved ahead of the county budget being finalized as a way of getting the projects underway as soon as possible.
Warden Tom Bain says the approved projects are just the tip of the iceberg of the needed road work in the county.
"There is always, no question, a definite problem of, 'I want done more in my municipality as opposed to my neighbouring municipality,'" says Bain. "Unfortunately, the dollar figures are just too high to get all the work done."
Bain says more funding is needed if the county is going to make everyone happy.
"We need to increase funding. We've got a lot of infrastructure work that needs to be done. If we don't continue to put more money in, we're going to fall farther behind the eight ball," says Bain.
Concerns were raised at the recent county council meeting as to why some municipalities were left off of the road rehab work list this year as both Tecumseh and Leamington aren't due for any help from the county this year.
Five of the approved projects will be in Lakeshore.
The most expensive project -- pegged at $800,000 -- is along County Road 23 in Lakeshore from County Road 46 to County Road 8.
