Essex councillors are going to stroll through the halls of the former Harrow high school. A tour is set for this afternoon as the town considers using the building as a community hub.
The high school was closed in June of 2016 as part of the public school board's work to reduce empty student spaces across the system. The building is still owned by the Greater Essex County District School Board, but the town is considering a possible purchase.
Councillor Sherry Bondy hopes the town can find a second life for the building.
"We've invited a couple of people who are interested in seeing the high school as well," says Bondy. "It's a public meeting, so members of the public are welcome if they so choose, but it's really for council to get a feel for the building and kind of see what space is available."
Bondy feels the former high school could work well as a community hub.
"I think it could be ideal, depending on the community partnerships that surface."
The tour is set to run from 4:30pm to 6:30pm this afternoon. Before closing last summer, the building served as a high school in Harrow since 1904.
