Successful in showcasing Windsor to the world, a city councillor now wants to make sure the FINA World Swimming Championships were an economic success. Irek Kusmierczyk is calling for a financial review to make sure hosting the event was worth the city's investment.
"Now moving forward, we really have to do our homework now as council, look at the numbers and basically see and check and verify whether this is something that we want to invest in in the future, whether we want to pursue this once again and I think that's the task of council is moving forward."
The overall budget for the event was just over $11-million. Windsor put up $3-million and organizers estimate the economic spionoff from FINA at $25-$30 million.
