It is being called a dream come true.
Construction has officially begun on a new accessible baseball diamond and accessible park in east Windsor.
A sod-turning ceremony took place Wednesday morning at the Farrow Riverside Miracle Park on Wyandotte St. E.
Committee Co-Chair Bill Kell is overjoyed by the turnout.
"It means everything to me," he says. "I mean we have been working on this, this was a dream, we call it a field of dreams and this is truly a dream come true."
The Riverside Minor Baseball Club first received council approval to lease the land for the miracle field in October 2017.
"It just enhances the community," says Kell. "It makes it accessible and inclusive, makes everybody come here, it will be a destination playground."
So far, $2.2-million dollars has been raised for the project.
The goal is to raise $3-million for the accessible baseball diamond, a new recreational pathway, a fully accessible and inclusive children's playground and a relocated cenotaph to honour the Riverside men and women who served in the world wars.
Construction should be completed this fall and league play should begin in the spring.
