The Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative along with The Initiative Glengarry to Marentette are looking to create a community garden in downtown Windsor.
Initiative spokesperson Leo Gill says they're looking to build a garden at Kinsmen Park which is located at the corner of Louis Ave. and Chatham St. E. He says the goal is to make the garden an anchor for the neighbourhood.
Gill says they would like to install eight plots.
"We're hoping to use that location as a way for people to engage in activities in addition to just the community garden piece but also as a community centre so people can kind of go there and enjoy the neighbourhood, enjoy the park," says Gill.
He wants to see more activity at the park.
"It is not as actively used but we believe it could be a community anchor point in the close future," says Gill.

The neighbourhood has responded positively according to Gill.
"We've had a couple of different meetings, we're hoping to establish also along side the community garden, a gardening group where people will learn how to garden if they're new at it and also to share their expertise if they're veterans for it," says Gill.
The city's Environment, Transportation and Public Safety Standing Committee approved the groups request. The issue now goes to city council for final approval.
