Coats for Kids has teamed up with Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare to support Windsorites who need clothes this winter.
Distribution of the coats began on Saturday at the Unemployed Help Centre.
Coats For Kids Coordinator, Heidi Janzen, says there are over 6,000 coats to give away this year.
She says they distribute their coats this time of year, but they accept donations all year long.
"They can bring in new or gently used coats and we will distribute them to families in need. It is an absolutely community affair, it makes a big difference to the families that typically would not be able to provide for themselves and their children."
Janzen says the Windsor community has been very generous this year.
"For the most part the people are just so thankful. They have got smiles on their faces and they really appreciate being able to go through and take the time to pick out their own coats. A little girl came in and ran to a pink coat and the smile on her face was just genuine."
Coats for Kids continues on Monday from 10am until 2pm at the Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare's Brown Auditorium.
