An indoor sports field could in the future for the WFCU Centre in Windsor.
In the city's 2017 Enhanced Capital Budget, $90,000 was set aside for a feasibility study, with final approval needed from council to unlock the funding.
Mayor Drew Dilkens says the facility would be equipped to handle a number of sports. "Council can decide whether to unlock the money that's been allocated. If they do, it's our intent to hire a third party who would undertake an operating assessment for the construction of a new facility at the WFCU, a new indoor sports facility, that would include soccer, tennis and football."
"Enhancing the WFCU could encourage development in the area." says Dilkens. "We look at that land in its entirety, we're looking at the fact that we love the WFCU, we love the facilities that we have, we think the community appreciates the facilities. But it's now been in operation for about nine years and we haven't seen the type of development happen in that area that we anticipated. So council is trying to do things to make the experience better."
Council will discuss moving forward with the study when it meets April 10th.
