The City of Windsor and the Windsor Essex County Humane Society have a new contract.
On Monday, city council voted in favour of a new five year partnership with the organization, which will see the city provide an annual 2% funding increase.
Executive Director Melanie Coulter says the humane society provides all animal control services for the city. "We did provide information to the city that basically our cost of performing the contract were higher than the value of the contract for a number of previous years, and that's continuing, and it's something that we will have to make up in donations and fundraising."
The city will provide just over $922,500 in year one which begins on July 1st, 2017.
City staff did look at five different options instead of the humane society including a partnership with Lakeshore's Dog Pound.
