The City of Windsor doesn't want to speed into implementing photo radar.
The province recently announced it would allow all municipalities to use the technology originally banned during the Mike Harris era in the 1990's.
There are three municipalities who currently have the ability to use photo radar, whjch would let the entire province have access to its use.
Mayor Drew Dilkens says the city would move cautiously, mainly because of the cost. "It's not something to implement at every intersection, council would have to use its discretion because it can cost 70 to $100-thousand for a single intersection, so you'd have to make sure the reason you're putting it up addresses a safety concern and you want it to have the impact you hope for," says Dilkens.
The proposed change would still restrict the use of photo radar to school and community safety zones.
