Windsor Police Service is taking the lead on a case involving an off-duty Chatham-Kent police officer.
Chatham-Kent Police Service brought in Windsor's Major Crimes Branch as a third-party investigator after learning one of its officers faced assault allegations on Nov. 27.
Constable Andrew Jaconelli is charged with sexual assault and assault with a weapon, as a result of that investigation.
Chatham-Kent police say the officer has been suspended from duty and charged under the Police Services Act with discreditable conduct.
Jaconelli also faces an internal investigation by the Chatham-Kent Police Service's Professional Standards Branch — that investigation could result in additional Police Service Act charges.
Jaconelli appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham-Kent Friday and was released on bail with conditions.
His next court date is in January of 2019.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police of Crime Stoppers anonymously.
