Windsor sex offender Carl Leone has been granted day parole for six months.
In a decision by the Parole Board of Canada which was obtained by AM800 news, the board ruled that day parole would "not result in undue risk to the community and would contribute to the protection of society by facilitating your (Leone) reintegration into the community as a law-abiding citizen."
Day parole will be based at a community-based residential facility pending the available bed space, but it will not be in Windsor.
Leone, who is now 41 years old, was sentenced in April 2008 to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to 15 counts of aggravated sexual assault.
Over a seven year period from 1997 to 2004, Leone had unprotected sex with 15 victims without telling them he was HIV positive.
Five of his victims contracted HIV.
Leone has had "Unescorted Temporary Absences" which the parole board says were successful and without any incidents.
During his day parole, Leone must report any "attempts to initiate intimate sexual or non-sexual friendships" with women to his parole supervisor.
