Here's a gift idea that's free and valued.
The Canadian Blood Services is asking donors in Windsor to remember to give the gift of life.
Between now and the end of the year, it has 565 open appointments in Windsor.
As a result of poor weather across the country, Canada Blood Services has had to cancel a number of clinics across the country.
Local Territory Manager Marisa Gatfield says a lot of people simply forget at this time of the year.
"People are busy with family festivities and traveling so sometimes regular donors are out there celebrating and not coming into the clinic," she says.
Gatfield says it is important for regular donors to donate but also encourages new donors to give blood.
"It is always a challenging time to collect blood during this time and there is an immediate need after the holidays and we want to encourage people to come out and give."
Gatfield says blood collected goes to patients who need blood and blood products while they are receiving cancer treatment, need emergency care or are undergoing life-saving surgery.
The clinic in Windsor at 3909 Grand Marais Rd East is open Tuesday/Wednesday from 3pm-7pm, Thursday from 11:30am to 7:30pm and Friday/Saturday from 8am to noon.
