The Town of LaSalle has released its 2017 draft budget.
The average increase works out to 4.3% for residential property owners.
However, administration is actually recommending a 0.46% municipal tax rate increase.
In a release, the town states residential tax payers will see an increase in the overall tax bill due to the recent MPAC re-assessment.
The town says most residential properties seen an increase in their property value and the 4.3% increase consists of a 3.83% average increase in assessment on existing properties plus a proposed 0.46% municipal tax rate increase.
Councillor Terry Burns has some concerns, "we should be reducing the mill rate to get back to where our old budget was and from there as we need to add to the budget then we tell the taxpayers this is how much more we need and if it's five percent then we ask for five percent but doing it this way, it's kind of like a hidden property tax," says Burns.
The draft budget is available on the town's website or at town hall.
Budget deliberations are set for December 7th to 9th.
