Jaroslav Halak stopped 29 shots as the Boston Bruins beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 to take a 2-1 lead in their first-round series.
Halak stepped in hours after starting goaltender Tuukka Rask opted out of the playoffs — Rask left the Toronto bubble to be with his wife and three young children.
Elsewhere, the Arizona Coyotes doubled up the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 to take a 2-1 series lead.
The Tampa Bay Lightning took back control of their series with the Columbus Blue Jackets winning 3-2 — that's good for a 2-1 series lead.
And in the later game, the Golden Knights are just one victory away from being the first team to reach the second round.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 26 saves as Vegas edged the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 for a 3-0 series lead.
