As Bright Lights Windsor draws to a close, Windsor's mayor is promising a bigger and better event for 2018.
Tuesday is the final night for the festival at Jackson park. It was extended by a few days to give families a chance to check out the event in more seasonal temperatures.
Speaking on AM800's the Morning Drive, Mayor Drew Dilkens says a couple thousand people attended the festival last night.
"I think people really appreciate the show that was put on and the good news in 2018, later on this year when we set it up again in December, we will have more features and it will be bigger and better," says Mayor Dilkens.
Originally, $3-million was set aside but it was cut in half due to public outcry from the flooding back in August.
"We are certainly planning on getting more features, more things that will excite people and give something for families to do that is free and fun in the winter," says Dilkens.
He's a little surprise by how much people have enjoyed the festival, and he thinks moving forward the festival will expand.
"We think there is an opportunity to have a holiday market there and do some things we have seen in other parts of the world, in other cities in Canada, including Toronto that bring people out and create an atmosphere that is really fun and unique and something special at that time of the year, we think it's great."
Dilkens says the features, like the huge tree, was purchased by the city so it is easier to set up the festival again.
He expects the festival will return again later this year in Jackson Park, but after that, the location will be decided by the council of the day.
