The owner of a dog that starved to death could face jail time

Animal cruelty charges have been laid by the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society after a dog was found dead near an abandoned building in March

Investigators have determined the 4-year-old Pitbill was starved to death by its owner who lived in an apartment near the scene at Louis Avenue and Cataraqui Street.

Jason Hylton is charged with causing distress to an animal and failing to provide adequate food.

If convicted, the suspect could be sentenced to 2 years in jail or ordered to pay a $60,000 fine.

The accused’s first appearance in court is August 28.
