Amherstburg Town Council approved a three-month extended medical leave for Mayor Aldo DiCarlo Monday night.
Earlier this month, DiCarlo shed some light on a string of absences from town meetings and functions — citing a battle with an undisclosed illness.
Council made the official move of granting him a three-month extended medical leave of absence, beginning June 24th and running into Septmeber, while he seeks treatment.
Deputy Mayor Leo Meloche says he spent more than an hour with DiCarlo last week, and the mayor is getting a bit stir crazy.
"He actually came to town hall on his bike, so it's showing some signs of improvement and he's eager to get back," he says.
Meloche says the mayor deserves all the time council can give him.
"He's given much of his time to this town, so it's been earned. He has the confidence of councillors as well and they all want to see him back, as do I," says Meloche.
He says councillors and administration have stepped up to make sure DiCarlo can concentrate on getting well.
"The current council has been very supportive of me as well and they've all done a great job in continuing on the business of the town," he added.
Councillor Michael Prue will attend Essex County Council meetings with Meloche until DiCarlo is cleared by his doctor to return to work.
