A new town hall may be in the works in Essex.
The town is looking at whether to build a new town hall or renovate the current Talbot St. location.
Director of Community Services, Doug Sweet says it's cheaper to build new. "Rough estimate, according to the study, is if we build new will be approximately $6-million. Renovating was a little higher because we'd have to build a second story."
"Space is also one of the big issues," says Sweet. "Currently we're at 10,000 square feet. The study came back that ultimately we need 20,000 square feet. It's almost double. We're pretty tight where we are now."
Sweet says money for any further planning will be apart of the 2018 municipal budget.
