It's a 5-0 loss for the Essex 73's in Game 1 of their second round Schmalz Cup series with the Ayr Centennials.
Tyler Ryan made 20 saves for the 73's in a losing effort before Jax D'hondt came in in relief, making five saves.
The 73's were badly outshot in the first period, 12-5 but would rebound in the second period, outshooting the Centennials 14-7. The third period was tightly contested with the Centennials just edging out the 73's in the shot category, 11-10.
However, Jackson Swindells stood tall in the Ayr net, stopping all 29 shots he faced. Mitch Klie had a hattrick for Ayr, including two power play goals.
The game was on the road with the series returning to Essex for Game 2 on Thursday. Puck-drop is set for 7pm.
