It's been open unofficially for months but today the 17-kilometre multi-use trail near the Herb Gray Parkway opened for walkers, runners and cyclists.
It's a paved and lit trail from Malden Rd in the west to Howard Ave in the east that includes rest areas and signs pointing out special features of interest.
"This is more than 17 kilometres of cycling infrastructure and a multi purpose trail," says Executive Director of Windsor-Essex Bike Friendly Lori Newton. "This is a big day for cyclists, riders and runners and residents who are near the trail to experience a healthy lifestyle."
Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens says the 17-kilometre trail is part of a bigger picture for the city.
"It connects nicely through Malden Park, Mic Mac, through Sandwich town and connects to the waterfront trail and it will be part of the Windsor Loop once we get Cabana Road done," says Dilkens.

Ontario Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca was part of today's opening ceremony which is the first trail in Ontario that has been incorporated into a major provincial highway project.
