The town of LaSalle has issued a statement after a family pet was attacked and killed by a coyote in the family's backyard.
The town says it has heard these types of situations over the years, but as a municipality, 'managing wildlife is out of our jurisdiction.'
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry helps manage wildlife in the province.
Tuesday night, a one-and-a-half-year old Yorkie Poo was let outside in the backyard on Bouffard Rd. when a coyote jumped the fence and snatched the little dog.
The town says, "What makes LaSalle unique is the blend of urban and wooded areas which has led to these types of conflicts between wildlife and residents."
The town points out residents need to take all precautions to detract coyotes from their property, such as never leaving food outside.
It says anyone with questions or concerns is encouraged to contact the ministry at 519-773-4728.
