The latest report by Public Health Ontario has found 16 people died in Windsor-Essex due to opioids.
In all of 2017, 36 people in the region died from opioid related causes.
When it comes to Emergency Department visits, there were 90 in the first six months of 2018, compared to 196 in all of 2017.
As for people being admitted to hospital due to opioids, there were 30 from January 2018 to June 2018, compared to 64 in 2017.
According to the report since 2003, the number of deaths has increased 246 per cent.
More than 1,250 Ontarians died from opioid-related causes in 2017.
