Just three days before the municipal election, a candidate in Windsor's Ward 5 is dropping out of the race.
Martin Utrosa made the announcement on Thursday and says as a Windsorite he wants to see change.
In an effort to prevent vote splitting, Utrosa is asking his supporters to vote for Joey Wright
"I actually suggested to him that I would be willing to endorse him so that people who might be looking for change in this ward, would have one less candidate to choose from and this could highlight and spotlight Mr. Wright's campaign — which I feel is very solid," says Utrosa.
He says come Monday, he doesn't want voters to put an 'x' beside his name on the ballot.
"If you've heard this message today, please share it with voters in Ward 5, that Martin Utrosa is asking them to put their vote somewhere where it can make the most difference and that would be a vote for Joey, in this election."
"It really came out of the blue," says Ward 5 Candidate Joey Wright. "I'm grateful for Martin putting the community first and I'm grateful for his support and I do think it is important that the voters have an option if they do want change and they don't want to stick around with the incumbent."
Also running in Ward 5 are Adam Castle, Lillian Kuzsely, Joe Lucier and Ed Sleiman.
