The newly formed People's Party of Canada has selected its candidate for the riding of Essex.
Bill Capes has been chosen to represent the party in the 2019 federal election set for October 21.
The 57-year-old feels the riding lacks representation.
"I decided instead of sitting around and waiting for someone else to come along and do the job, I would get involved and see what I could do for the people of Essex County myself," says Capes.
It's his first-ever election campaign, which he says will focus on strengthen in the community.
"If we have a strong community, our community working on behalf of the people within the community, working together we can accomplish great things," says Capes. "We have fantastic people here within the county and all they need is to be represented properly, efficiently, truthfully and good things can happen."
While he has no political experience, Capes feels he's the right person for the job.
"I've never run for a party, I've never had time," he says . "I'm definitely not a politician by nature. The time is right for all of us, all of us need to be involved in what's happening within our own country. People just need to be involved. They need to be aware of what's happening."
Capes was born in Windsor but has lived in Essex County for more than 17-years.
He is a machinist and is currently a machine leader at Southwest Manufacturing.
The newly formed People's Party of Canada was started late last year by former Conservative member Maxime Bernier.
The current MP for Essex is New Democrat Tracey Ramsey.
