A shotgun was found Thursday inside a home on Josephine Avenue.

Another illegal firearm has been pulled off the streets of Windsor.

"It's a tremendous win we'll label it that way," says Sgt. Steve Betteridge.

As heard on AM800 News, police surrounded a home in the 300-block of Josephine Avenue Thursday afternoon.

Police now say it was part of an active investigation by the Windsor Police Service Drugs and Guns (DIGS) Unit which was targeting illegal firearms.

Betteridge says during the course of the investigation, two suspects were identified, along with a target residence, and officers executed a search warrant.

"Meaning finding exactly what we were searching for and being able to take a firearm off the street and out of someone's hands who in our opinion would probably use it for a crime because we know it was illegally in their possession," says Betteridge. "When that warrant was executed we did in fact recover a firearm. So it's tremendous news to have a firearm that is being illegally possessed taken out of those hands and taken off our streets and out of harms way if you will."

Betteridge tells AM800 News it's tremendous news to have a illegal firearm off the streets.

"This week we've had two firearms taken off our streets, does that mean we have a large firearm concern in our city, no I don't believe so but at the same time it's tremendous work being done by our officers," says Betteridge.

Police determined that four adults had been inside the residence, however the suspects were not at the scene.

One of the occupants was identified as being wanted on unrelated outstanding warrants and was arrested.

A search of the home turned up a number of items, including a loaded shotgun.

The matter remains under active investigation by the DIGS Unit.

No names have been released.
