Amherstburg town council is being asked to spend $1.3-million to replace a bridge in River Canard.
The 2nd Concession Bridge over the Long March Drain is located just a couple kilometres away from the main River Canard Bridge by St. Joseph's Church.
There are three options available --- demolition, remove and rehabilitate or replacement of the bow-string bridge.
Administration is recommending the bridge be replaced.
Carmel Ravanello family property is located at 2041 2nd Concession North, which is directly in front of the bridge.
She wants the town to rehabilitate the bridge instead of replacing it. "I was just wanting to kind of preserve it for the community. It's such a tourist attraction almost for the one that's in front of the church as well as the one that's there by our family's property and I thought it was well worth preserving."
"I just can't image that they couldn't restore it," says Ravanello. "That sounds like a lot of money for the taxpayers but I have to bow to their knowledge and I'm sure they've done the research on it."
An exact age of the bridge is unknown but the town believes it's anywhere between 65 to 70-years old.
