Another major development announcement for Amherstburg.

Amico has announced it will build a four storey boutique style hotel on Dalhousie St. at Gore St.

As well the developer plans to build, two five-storey waterfront condominiums across the street from the hotel.

Cindy Prince is Vice President of Development for Amico.

She says the the company also has plans for 200 residential building lots on the south end of Boblo Island.

Prince says Amico has owned the property for about 20-years.

"We've been maintaining the lands and not really using them for an specific purpose, kind of helping with parking and those sorts of things for their events," says Prince.  "But we just been waiting for the right time to announce our development plans and we really feel in the Town of Amherstburg this is the right time to further invest and to get our development projects underway."

Prince adds the company felt now is the right time to make the announcement with the town's plans to develop the former Duffy's property.

"Our timing really as a development company doesn't have to much to do with municipal elections," says Prince.  "We're really focused on what we see happening in a particular community when we feel the right time to spend $120 million.  We think Amherstburg is ready to launch if you will."

The total cost for the entire developments is $120-million.

If approved by council, construction is expected to start in the spring 2019.
