TENTATIVE DEAL DETAILS |

A tentative contract has been reached between the Canadian Auto Workers union and General Motors of Canada similar to a deal already reached with Ford. GM workers will get no wage increases for three years but will see cost-of living improvements in the second and third years of the contract. CAW president Buzz Hargrove says the deal contains `huge improvements' to income security for the GM workers. He also told a media scrum this morning that a deal appears near with Chrysler.

Buzz Hargove and Company Officials negotiated throughout the early morning hours and are meeting this hour for hand shakes and photo op's. The details are still to be released. Windsor fire crews were called back to the scene of a warehouse fire at Hanna and McDougall Streets this morning. The fire re-kindled about 5:45, sending up a pillar of thick, black smoke. It's the same building that caught fire late Tuesday night and kept firefighters busy well into Wednesday afternoon. Damage from the fire is estimated at $1.5 million. |

Windsor and Leamington are included in this year's 'Money Sense' magazine list of the best places in which to live in Canada. Leamington is ranked 15th, Windsor 21st among 154 communities surveyed. The survey takes into consideration such things has weather, crime, household income, unemployment and doctor availability. |

CAW President Buzz Hargrove says a "small number of issues are still on the table." The union is still negotiating with General Motors and Chrysler Canada trying to reach a new collective agreement. Hargrove thinks they're close to finalizing a deal, but also thinks it could fall apart based on these "small issues." The damage estimate has been increased following a warehouse fire in Windsor. Damage is now pegged at 1.5-million dollars following Tuesday night's fire at "Wipe Write Inc." on McDougall Avenue. The cause is still unknown, but arson is not being ruled out. The Ontario Fire Marshall's Office has been called in to help the investigation. |

Stiff competition from several U-S states has left Ontario with no choice but to offer G-M more money for new projects. G-M wants the provincial and federal governments to contribute 140-million dollars toward projects in St. Catherines and Oshawa. The company recently announced layoffs totalling 23-hundred in Windsor and Oshawa.

The area around McDougall and Hanna Streets in Windsor remains closed to traffic. Firefighters remain on the scene of a warehouse fire. Damage is now estimated at 750-thousand dollars following the overnight blaze. The cause is under investigation.

It'll be at least a week before a Windsor man gets back behind the wheel. His license has been suspended after he was clocked going 111 kilometers an hour in a 50 zone on Front Road in LaSalle shortly after midnight last night. Before the officer could get turned around to catch up, a second officer clocked the vehicle going 128 in a 50, 78 kph over the limit. The man's license has been suspended for 7 days and the vehicle, a rental car, has been impounded under Ontario's street racing law. |

It's going to cost more to take a cab in LaSalle. Town Council has approved a jump in the starting rate from $2.65 to $2.95. As well, the 'waiting charge' increases from $18 to $25. Drivers say they need the increase because of rising fuel costs. |

Fire has gutted a recycled clothing warehouse in the 1500 block of McDougal Street at Hanna. Fire crews were called about 11 p.m. Tuesday and found bales of clothing on fire. The blaze knocked out hydro in the area for several hours but service has since been restored. The cause of the fire is under investigation bit officials say it doesn't appear to be suspicious. |

The wife of Corporal Mike Starker, who was killed in an ambush west of Kandahar city last week, says her husband was proud of serving in Afghanistan. Windsor-native Nicole Starker says despite her loss, she still supports the mission. A public funeral will be held on Friday for Starker, who was also a Calgary paramedic. |

C-A-W national president Buzz Hargrove says accomodations will be made for the 26-hundred retirees though. Negotiations are taking place between G-M and the union for a close-out agreement for 12-hundred workers. |

The OPP in Lakeshore are turning to the public for help concerning a gruesome weekend finding. Around 7am Sunday, a woman was walking by a business in the 500 block of Notre Dame Street when she noticed a cat hanged from a door handle by a wire cable. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Lakeshore OPP or Crime Stoppers. |

Sunwing Airlines will begin flying out of Windsor this winter. Destinations for sun worshippers will be Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Windsor Airport Manager Federica Nezzanni shared the news with reporters this afternoon. She says expectations for success are high, especially since there are no Cuba bound flights out of Detroit.

Massey High School is taking some extra security measures today after persistant rumours of potential violence. Education Director, Mary Jean Gallagher, says the rumours involved an outsider with 'no good intent'' looking for a student at the school. Police conducted a number of interviews but decided the stories were not credible. However, as a precaution, there'll be a police presence at the school today and the doors at the back of the school will be locked. |

City council is going to spend two-million dollars this year to make Windsor look "pretty." The Parks Department is planning some landscaping along Dougall and Howard Avenues. The work will take place between the entry into the city and past the EC Row Expressway on both routes. |

The Rosati Group has purchased the 160-acre site and is calling the property the "Grand Central Business Park." The industrial park will be geared towards the transportation sector along with research and development. |

The GM Transmission Plant in Windsor is closing. Workers were given the news this morning in a letter from the President of General Motors that a future product has not been secured and the plant will close in the summer of 2010. The closure effects close to 12 hundred people. The plant makes about four thousand transmissions a day for smaller cars like the Cobalt, Pursuit, G-5, G-6, Malibu, Saturn VU and Aura. |

One dead, one injured -- the aftermath of a hit and run in downtown Windsor. Police say two people were struck by a vehicle while crossing Janette Avenue at University Avenue West around 1 Sunday morning. 51-year-old Dennis John Snively of Windsor died of his injuries, while a 31-year-old Windsor woman is listed as "stable" in hospital. Police are looking for a small, red car. |

Windsor's Valiant Machine and Tool Inc. has been named Boeing's 'Supplier of the year' in the non-production shared services category. Valiant was chosen from a pool of 250 potential suppliers. Valiant President Len Solcz credits the companies 700 workers. They provide Boeing with tooling and equipment for production and spare parts for its planes. Also announced today by MPP Sandra Pupatello; a 250-thousand dollar grant for the Ontario Aerospace Council.

The eastbound 401 between Puce Road and Belle River Road will have a lane closed beginning Monday morning at 6. The lane will remain closed until further notice for construction. Signs will be posted and speed will be reduced during that stretch. Meantime, Ouellette Avenue in Windsor will be closed temporarily this week between Park and University for a final coat of asphalt. Detours will be posted downtown. |

Impaired driving charges have been laid against a Lasalle woman. Provincial Police officials say officers responded to a crash on the eastbound 401 in Chatham-Kent around 1am on Sunday and arrested 31-year-old Allison McIninch when she showed signs of impairment by alcohol. Authorities say a motorist called them about a speeding car driving erratically near Mull Road. They say the car drove into the centre median and almost crossed into the westbound lanes. A male passenger fled the scene by foot before officers arrived. |

Several vials of pain medication, syringes and prescription drugs were in the kit which was taken yesterday from a parked vehicle in the 400 block of Sunnyside Blvd. Police say the kit is described as a large white metal box with 'Paramedic' written on top. Anyone with information should call police or crimestoppers. |

A cat died in the blaze and there were no other injuries. There is significant smoke and fire damage to the upper unit and water damage to the lower apartment. |

OPP in Tecumseh have made an arrest in connection to a break in at an elementary school. 26 hundred dollars worth of equipment including a laptop and digital camera were stolen earlier this month from the Lacasse Blvd school. A 17 year has been arrested and charged and will perform community service and must pay restitution for the damages. The stolen items have been recovered. |

The province has kicked-in 100-thousand dollars for a reverse trade show at Caesars Windsor in November to bring-in international customers and turn them into new customers for local tool and die shops. The O-P-P arrested Shawn Cartwright Friday night after a short police pursuit in Windsor. 33-year-old Theresa Coulter and 37-year-old Randy Coulter of Windsor were arrested on Thursday and appear in court on Monday. |

Windsor police are asking the public to help find a car linked to a shooting on the cities west side. It's described as a newer silver or grey four door Pontiac G6 and was last seen swerving through traffic on University Avenue near Huron Church Wednesday night. A 19 year old girl was hurt when 8-10 shots were fired into a home on Bloomfield Road. Three male suspect remain at large. |
